| Abstract: | В статье исследуется сенсорная образность в романе ирландского модерниста Джеймса Джойса «Портрет художника в юности». Выявляются основные способы ее создания в тексте (визуальные, вкусовые, звуковые, тактильные и ольфакторные эпитеты; глаголы чувственного восприятия; поливалентность лексем сенсорной семантики; синестезия; персонификация и др.). Доказывается, что сенсорная образность важна для понимания духовной эволюции главного героя Стивена Дедала и специфики его эстетических взглядов. |

The article deals with the sensory imagery in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. Special attention is paid to different ways of its creation in a literary text (epithets related to sight, taste, sound, touch and smell; verbs of perception; polyvalence of sensory lexemes; synesthesia; personification, etc.). Sensory imagery is an important means of revealing the protagonist’s spiritual evolution and aesthetic theory. |
